Can I play Pokemon Y in a new console?

I'm currently playing Pokemon Y, finished the E4 and now I'm doing the breeding.

I have a Nintendo 3DS Normal, I'm thinking about buying a Nintendo 3DS XL, how will work my Pokemon Y? All my saved game will appear on the new console and my Friend Code and Friends?

Your game's save file will be ok but you will lose all your friends and friend codes as friend codes are saved INSIDE the 3ds.
