Not only animals, but plants and other things, like pre-history animals (Fossil-Pokemons).*


This is an Axolotl, if you see it looks like Wooper!
Gamefreak based this animal into Wooper.


HERE you can see the name origins for all Pokemons!

Example of Butterfree and Pidgeot -

pigeon - a species of bird (based on a bird)

They actually based Wooper on an Axolotl.
