PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

Now, I just dug through my old Pokemon collection and found Leaf Green sitting there, collecting dust. In this age of Gen VI, I have often found myself lamenting that I didn't have any of the Gen III games for their tutors. Evidently, I do!

So now that these move tutors are available to me, I plan to use them. However, each can only be used once. So the question is, who should get these move tutor moves, starting with Double-Edge?

I can think of only two top contenders:

Glalie
Now that Glalie has a Mega Evolution with the ability Refrigerate, Glalie needs Normal moves to abuse it. Unfortunately, the only particularly relevant one is the ever-common Return. While Return is good, Double-Edge does more damage, and lowers Glalie's health faster to get it into Explosion range. I mean, who runs Mega Glalie without Explosion anyway?

Here's the set I was thinking of:
Glalie @ Glalitite
Ability: Inner Focus -> Refrigerate
Jolly Nature
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
-Spikes
-Ice Shard
-Double-Edge
-Explosion

Altaria
Altaria also got an ORAS Mega Evolution with Pixilate. Altaria gets the amazing Dragon Dance, which boosts its Attack and Speed to awesome levels. This encourages the use of Double-Edge, but again, there's Return.

Here's the Altaria set:
Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure -> Pixilate
Jolly Nature
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
-Dragon Dance
-Roost
-Double-Edge
-Earthquake

If you could provide a few solid reasons why one is better than the other, or if you propose a few other contenders, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

I think Glalie would be better with Double-Edge, as it does a ton of damage sets up for an extraordinary explosion... Although double edge does a lot of damage with Altaria, it wears it down quicker. Thanks!

Thanks for your answer! :D (I honestly like Glalie better anyway :P) Also, do you think I should Masuda Method for Snorunt in Leaf Green? Shiny Mega Glalie with Double-Edge would be AWESOME.
It all depends on how much time you're willing to spend on it! I'm glad you like my answer!
