I'm not far enough in the game (I've restarted!) to find out yet, and curiosity really hates me today, so do you keep the Rainbow Wing and / or Silver Wing after the ingame event? Can you do anything with it?

Yes, you do. It remains in the Key Items pocket.

Can you do anything with it?

Not really. I checked the Bell Tower and none of the monks said anything about it.
