Apologies, if this has been asked before, I found it not.

I am yet to catch the Trio, when this popped into my head.

If yes, why? If not, why not? (This bit is optional, obviously.)

Why do you think it wouldn't o.o
Nicknaming them doesn't really change anything so long as you have the Pokemon iirc...
Idk, I guess I'm not sure how the game checks Regice's nick..
Nah, pretty sure it will allow. But I haven't ever tried getting a Regigigas for myself so I'd better not answer xD
Nope, the nickname does not affect the Regi king's appearance. Too many people would hate on the trio (even more) if they couldn't name their Regis.
Maybe you could just try to name it 'Regice' yourself and see if it works. If it doesn't work, then you can just go to the name rater in Slateport city to give it another nickname.
Should an answer to this include a source, since it’s been on unanswered so long? I’m currently replaying Alpha Sapphire, and I can answer this in a week or so.
Testing it yourself is good enough. If you're really concerned that people will comment "source????", you could do a recording.
(Might as well mention this question did have an answer, it was just removed recently.)
I’ll be able to answer tomorrow, but I found that there is a dupe of this question, the below link. However, this second question doesn’t have a clear-cut source, it seems just to be theorizing. https://pokemondb.net/pokebase/267635/would-i-be-able-to-obtain-regigigas-in-oras-in-this-situation

Apparently, naming Regice “Regice” will not count as being a nickname, and therefore will not summon Regigigas.
Bulbapedia states that you need to fulfill certain criteria to summon Regigigas:

In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the player is able to encounter Regigigas in the Island Cave after capturing all three Legendary titans in their respective locations in that game. To do so, the player must go to Pacifidlog Town and speak to the girl in the northeast house. The player must also have a nicknamed Regice holding an ice-based item (a Casteliacone, a piece of Never-Melt Ice, an Icy Rock, an Icicle Plate, or a Snowball), as well as Regirock and Registeel in their party. Regigigas can be encountered starting from the day after catching the last of the Legendary titans, but cannot be encountered at night. As Regigigas is not in the Hoenn Pokédex, it can only be battled after capturing/defeating GroudonOR/KyogreAS.

I tested this by capturing the three Regis yesterday, and trying to summon Regigigas today (daytime). When I tested with the three Regis in my party, already having met with the girl who gave me the correct information, Regice holding a Never-Melt Ice, and Regice being nicknamed “Regice”, the following message appeared:

"...?"
"There seemed to be some presence here, but it disappeared in an instant...”

This leads me to believe that since I fulfilled all criteria but the nickname, the nickname is what prevented Regigigas from being summoned.

Right after, I headed to the Name Rater to change Regice to “Regiice”, and I headed back to the Island Cave. When I entered, I was greeted with the following text:

"The very earth is quaking! Is something approaching?!"
"Zut zutt!"

Regigigas then appeared, and I was able to battle it.

Hope I helped!

So names mean stuff
Yeah, the nicknames are checked to see if they are the same as the species’ name or not. However, this is only ORAS, I have yet to see if other games/gens do this.
backing this up, i noticed with gens 4+ if you nickname a pokemon it's default name with the proper caps, it will not count as a nickname. However, if you name it the pokemon's name with incorrect caps, it will count as a nickname. source: I did it before when accidently pressing "yes" as a kid to not nickname them.
source 2: i also nicknamed my pokemon lower case varients of their name, and it stayed when they evolved.
hot dang I'd forgotten I'd even asked this question. Can't believe it's been 7+ years since I'd asked lmao, I feel ancient. Thanks a bunch for your effort specially if you did go through the hassle of catching them!
No problem, happy to help! I was already doing a playthrough, and I needed the legends for something anyways, so I thought to just test it out.
