Guts will contradict with Lum Berry.

Guts is only in effect whilst the Pokemon is suffering from a major status ailment, curing the status will thus remove the boosted attack.

Flavor text from the games:
Generation III : Ups Attack if suffering.
Generation IV : Boosts Attack if there is a status problem.
Generation V: Boosts Attack if there is a status problem.
Generation VI: Boosts the Attack stat if the Pokémon has a status condition.

Attack is increased 50% when afflicted by a non-volatile status.

Our own dear Pokemon DB:
Guts raises the ability-bearer's Attack by 50% when inflicted by a major status ailment (poison, burn, paralysis, freeze or sleep).

So in short, Guts only works when the Pokemon suffers from a status problem.

that's not fair .. i was trying to fool others !! after no protect & flame orb they gonna think my hariyama is thick fat or sheer force and get boost & cure .. shame
That strategy wouldn't work either sadly, a Pokemon couldn't have both Flame Orb and Lum Berry. And as soon as you got burned they would know you were Guts, no matter if you managed to heal it immediately.
i've never said me gonna hold a flame orb !  i only hold a lum berry and let others
burn me and use the lum to heal me and keep the boost .. anyway u say :- Guts only works when the Pokemon suffers .. so this is my answer .
thanks bro

The Pokémon would keep it's attack boost as long as it doesn't switch out. These kinds of berry strategies are used for several builds for Pokémon. The good news about a burn on a Guts Pokémon is that there is no Attack drop.

EDIT: I may be mistaken but I believe Sleep does not affect the activation of guts.
