Compatibility of games and console?

Question

I want to play Crystal on my Ds lite. If gba's were able to play gbc and Ds lite's can play gba games (so like Emerald), can I play R/B/Y or G/S/C on my Ds lite?

No, because there isn't a GB/GBC slot on the DS.

but how were GBA's capable of playing GB/GBC games (at least the SP)? Can't the 'GBA' slot on the Ds Lite slot work?

No. The game catridges plain don't fit into the DS GBA slot :P
