PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I haven't played since the original Red version, but now I have a DS, and would like to try to have a fairly complete Pokedex.
I've heard that I should go from Emerald, then to Platinum then to FireRed/LeafGreen, then on to SoulSilver/HeartGold and end with Black/White. Is this true? Thanks!

Well, if you wanna go in the Pokemon order, go with FireRed/LeafGreen first, so you can get through Kanto (Remakes of Red and Blue, you see), then go for HeartGold/SoulSilver to get into Johto and grab yourself a Ledyba or Sentret for the Pokedex.

From there, head to Hoenn in Emerald to get your hands on more Pokemon like Mawile, Exploud, and Salamence. Now you'll get into the original DS games: Platinum will give you the Sinnoh Pokemon like Torterra, Staraptor, and Rotom, and finally, play Black and White for the latest generation of these little monsters.

If you play through and get 100% completion on all the games, you'll have all 649 Pokemon.

EDIT: If you want a nice, neat view of all the Pokemon you'll need for this epic quest, go to this link!

Good luck, and glad to hear you'll be returning to the games. :)

I mostly agree with the above answer. If you want all the original goodness, try this:
Red/Blue/Green/Yellow -This will be the original 151, like Mew, Dragonite, Pikachu, and Lapras.

Gold/Silver/Crystal -The second generation includes pokemon like Spinarak, Lugia, Tyranitar, and Pichu.

Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald -The third Generation includes pokemon such as Linoone, Beautifly, Wynaut, and Rayquaza.

Diamond/Pearl/Platinum -The fourth generation is the first DS one. This has pokemon like Garchomp, Mammoswine, Yanmega, and Giritina.

Black/White -The latest installment in the pokemon series. Generation V includes Klinklang, Krookodile, Conkeldurr, and Unfezant.

Once you've played through, migrate all the Gameboy games's pokemon to Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. Once that is completed, migrate them to Black/White. Good luck getting all 649!

Gotta Catch 'em all!

P.S. You can substitute Red/Blue/Green/Yellow for Fire Red/Leaf Green for better graphics and playing. The same may be done with Gold/Silver/Crystal for Heart Gold/Soul Silver. Hope this helped!

"to eventually compile them all".

He wants to transfer between the games to have all 649 on Black/White, in the end.
I 'd vote you down if there wasn't the P.S. part x)

There are only 8 Pokemon games. If you own a Nintendo 2DS XL and a Nintendo Switch, you can play every 3D Pokemon game and most of the 2D ones.

Pick the one from the console you own, in the order of generations.

Are you sure that playing in this order guarantees that the asker will end up with a complete Pokedex?
