What's the minimum number of Pokemon you and a friend can bring to an Online Multi Battle? (XY, ORAS)?

It's been a long time since I've done an Online Multi Battle, and I can't seem to remember if it was 2 or 4 each. Thanks!

Is there some reason why you can't just try bringing two?

Minimum number is 4, as there are 4 players in a multi battle and each player has to bring one or more mons.
