PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

So I was out farming for Heart Scales by catching wild Luvdisc. One catch seemed really weird though.

Instead of the normal sound it makes when you throw a pokeball, it made something different. I guess I could best describe it as a "fling" noise, a "WOOOOooooo" noise, or something reminiscent of a miniature rocket.

When it went inside the PokeBall, it only jiggled once and it was caught.

What just happened. This seems kinda familiar to me, is this called a "lucky catch?"

This is called a critical capture.

Since Generation V, when a Poké Ball is thrown, a special type of capture that is much more likely to catch a Pokémon, called a critical capture (Japanese: 捕獲クリティカル critical capture), may occur. When a critical capture occurs, the Poké Ball will make a high-pitched whistling sound as it is thrown, then pause in mid-air, and shudder before it drops down to the ground, shaking only once on the ground before the Pokémon escapes or is caught.
