Effective combo?

Question

I'm trying to come up with good battle strategies and I want to know if this will be effective:

Move: Screech (for lowering defense by 2)
Move: Confuse Ray (for damage to self)

The screech will lower defense by a lot so when a pokemon hurts itself when confused it will do maximum damage!!

I like the strategy, it's an old classic, but the foe could easily switch out and get rid of all of this, so perhaps have a trapping move like Mean look. Also, why stop at confuse ray? Why not switch it out for Swagger, so they have higher attack, resulting in even more damage!

Swagger basically has the same effect as Screech+Confuse Ray. P.S. you can check here pokemon that can learn for example Swagger+Screech: http://pokemondb.net/tools/moveset-search

It will be very effective! Simple yet effective! It will work for Golbat, Psyduck, Tentacool, Kabuto, Crobat, Chinchou, Umbreon,Murkrow, Misdreavus, Corsola, Magby, Shuppet, Skorupi and all respective evolutions!
