How much must a game of HGSS be played in order to take Pokemon from a Pokewalker?

Are you asking how far along the game you have to be in order to use the Pokewalker or something more specific?

Anytime, as long as you have a Pokémon in the PC to send to the Pokewalker, so I suppose you technically have to get past Lyra/Ethan's "how to catch a Pokémon" tutorial.
