Battle Tree Multi Battle without WiFi?

Question

My friend and I are wanting to Multi Battle against the Battle Tree in SM. We will be on a plane and therefore will have no WiFi. Is this possible?

Comments

Some of the older games were able to use infrared to connect to nearby games. I don't know if Generation 7 games can do that.
