Does an american DS game works on a japanese 3DS?

I have a Japanese New Nintendo 3DS LL, and I was wondering if I could play an American version of Pokemon platinum on it. I have some DS games and all of them worked on it (none of them are Pokemon). I just want to be sure before buying the game, since it is quite expensive now days.

DS games don't have any kind of region-lock feature built in, so you can play any DS game regardless of region on your 3DS; your copy of Platinum should work just fine.
