Why does Ash not battle gym-trainers?

I just realized Ash in the Pokemon anime Never battles gym trainers only leaders. Why in the games do we have to battle trainers AND leaders.

Why not? The anime is super different anyway, such as the fact that they can block attacks, and the entire region is different, the size of places, the things there,etc.

Anime Logic.

Anime characters don't follow the same things in the games. Plus, how entertaining would it be to watch Ash slog his way through copious amounts of trainers? Not very fun.
