Why cant I take part in sky battles even when I have a farfetchd?

Do they not allow farfetchd to fly or something?

While it is flying type, its sprite appears to be standing on the ground so it can't be used in Sky Battles. Other Pokemon like Hawlucha or Gengar can't be used either even though Hawlucha is a flying type and Gengar has levitate. The full list of Pokemon that can be used is here if you're interested.

The reason Farfetch'd is unable to be used in Sky Battles is because its In-battle Sprite is not above the ground like Talonflame for instance, even though it is a Flying Type. Other Pokémon that suffer from this are Hawlucha, Fletchling and Gengar.
