For those who don't know what is it, here is an example:
Have a super bulky Pokemon, make it have baton Pass and use some status moves, Baton Passes and sweeps your team. But can easily be ruined by Whirlwind Lugias.
Looking at how viable Lugia is, it really is a threat. So how viable is this strategy?

Uh, don't make sense. Baton Pass is done primarily by fast attackers which don't need bulk always, such as Ninjask, Scolipede, Blaziken, etc. You do are vulnerable to getting revenge killed by Ditto, Marshadow, etc. as well.

Looking at how viable Lugia is, it really is a threat. So how viable is this strategy?

Yes, teams have at least one Whirlwind-er to ruin this, however Taunt can make short work of them. You do need to be careful how people handle them, since they can lead with Dynamax Yveltal which can easily keep with Speed Boost with its Max Airstream.

  • Also, its not a good way to entirely plan your team with one lead dependent, meaning that if the lead is down, your team is down. Smeargle is one good with Baton Pass but people are ready for it through their Taunt users and priority users.
  • The above mentioned Swords Dance-users aren't good in AG apart from Baton Pass, so choose those Pokemon that can do anything even if they're shut down with Taunt. Looking at these list, Calyrex-S is one excellent Baton Pass-user, combined with Nasty Plot+Baton Pass.

So, we can tell that Baton Pass can do good, but entirely planning around it isn't good.
Hope this helps!
