Due to the number of Trainers present in Team Flare's Hideout, Victory Road, and the Pokemon League, Brick Break puts up a strong case for being better than Close Combat. In-game, consider the route-clearing potential of each move, not just their base power -- while Close Combat is stronger, its 5 PP are too few to be effective long-term. In addition, the TM for Brick Break is available slightly earlier in the game than the level Gallade gets Close Combat, making it a more reliable move long-term. With STAB and Gallade's high Attack stat, Brick Break does a sufficient amount of damage, and is objectively superior to Close Combat in terms of clearing dungeons.
