Does recoil damage activate Stamina?

If you use Double Edge, does the recoil damage increase Mudsdale's defence?

Probably not, because Stamina only activates when the Pokemon is hit by an attack, and recoil isn't technically an attack.

It doesn't

I tested it through a replay. Mudsdale had Stamina and Double Edge, and when it used the move, its defense stat didn't raise. So, Stamina is not affected by recoil damage.
The reason behind this might be that Stamina isn't affected by indirect damage, like recoil.
