How rare is it for one type of weather to cover the entire Wild Area?

(Okay I know this is a stupid question but it baffles me)

When I went around the Wild Area, I noticed that the weather was Sandstorm. Everywhere. I went to all areas of the Wild Area and all Sandstorm. I even checked the areas of the map I haven't been (water areas, haven't gotten that bike upgrade yet) and it showed the symbol for Sandstorm like everywhere else. Is this normal? What are the chances of this happening?

Note: I'm playing Shield and I don't have the DLCs.

On the 1st of every month, the weather is the same everywhere in the Wild Area. On April 1, it's Sandstorm.

On the first of every month, the weather changes, and it is the same weather everywhere in the wild area. You can also change the weather by changing your Nintendo switch date.

This is a website that will tell you what date is with what weather. For example, the website says that a sandstorm starts on April 1st, which I believe you are experiencing. If you want to change the weather, you can change it by changing the date on your Nintendo Switch.
