Can I turn the timer off in a battle against a friend?

I haven't found any way to, so I'm pretty sure I can't, and that's a problem for us, as my friends and I may have to do other things in the background. If there isn't, can someone at least point me in the right direction for requests/suggestions for QoL improvements for the game?

Yeah, it really ruins an otherwise perfectly good friendly with your local mates. Even more so if you're trying to introduce someone to the game.
