Does the heating process of Beak Blast occur when the user is asleep?

I'm specifically asking about the games. In a Gen 9 Randoms match on Showdown, my Toucannon was able to heat up its beak while it was still asleep, burning the opposing Jumpluff. However, my Toucannon was still asleep and didn't attack. Does this interaction happen in the games too or is this just a Showdown thing?

Yes, the heating process of Beak Blast occurs while Toucannon is asleep. Here's the video of me pulling this off, where the Chewtle winds up burnt while making contact, despite Toucannon being asleep.

Something interesting to note is that, if Toucannon does wake up on that turn, it will charge its beak, wake up, and then use Beak Blast due to its -3 priority.
