PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

It’s been literal years since I finished a playthrough of XY. I always play until the third gym and ditch; I don’t like the pacing of the game. All that to say, I haven’t finished XY properly since 2013/2014.

Playing Z-A now makes me feel like I’m missing a few things. Like, I didn’t recognize Emma at all, and I can’t remember what motivated Lysandre beyond “beautiful world”, and I can’t remember why Az is immortal. I remember the key points of a weapon, but that’s it. I’m also curious how Lysandre and Az are related.

Can I get a rundown of XY lore please?

Three thousand years before X&Y, there was a huge war in Kalos.

the king of Kalos, AZ, had a very beloved Floette (Which is in a special form, called the Eternal Flower form) which was killed in the war. In his grief, AZ built a device that he called the Ultimate Weapon, which he powered by taking the life of countless Pokémon. It revived Floette, but it wasn't the same. It was in a way... incomplete. But then, overwhelmed by loss and rage from both not having his true partner, and realizing the gravity of what he actually did. AZ used that same weapon to end the war by blasting both sides, including his own, killing hundreds of Pokémon and humans alike. The weapon released so much of the stolen life energy that it ended up making AZ immortal, and it cursed him to have to walk the Earth forever, eternally suffering without his partner, which left him after he destroyed everyone fighting in the war.

Fast-forward to the present. Enter Lysandre, the leader of Team Flare and a descendant of AZ’s royal line. Lysandre is obsessed with perfection. He believes the world is full of greed, destruction, and waste. He wants to stop humans before they destroy everything perfect and beautiful. He knows AZ’s old legend of the “Ultimate Weapon,” He sees the story as a blueprint to rebuild the Ultimate Weapon. He intends to use the weapon again to “reset” the world, destroying most of humanity so he can rebuild everything in a perfect way. He funds Team Flare, posing as a humanitarian and inventor, while secretly rebuilding the weapon beneath Geosenge Town. He’s not entirely evil. He genuinely thinks he’s saving the world. By the end of the game, he activates the weapon, realizes what he’s done, just as AZ does, and seems to die when it fires.

After the credits roll, AZ shows up.
He challenges you to a battle. Which is the first battle he’s had in 3000 years. Once you win, his Floette finally returns to him, symbolizing redemption.

It’s helpful, but you only touch upon AZ rather than a full lore. The purpose of me asking this is to understand Z-A more. Also, you didn’t include any sources
that's because I didn't use sources. I played X 6 weeks ago. But fair point on the AZ thing. That should help you though, AZ is a pretty large part of Z-A
I don't wanna sound rude, but you should really fully answer questions to the asker's specifications rather than just doing what you think is acceptable. Hate to reference the rules in this way bc I'm not auth, but rule 0.6 states that the answer box is for complete answers... and this isn't really complete.
how? Not mad or anything, just genuinely curious.
It’s not complete because in the description i specifically said I wanted to understand all the lore to understand Z-A better, and even mentioned Emma by name. You didn’t mention any Emma lore, let alone any other characters other than AZ and Lysandre
Correct. Lore is not the same thing as plot.
The story of X/Y? Plot.
The whole thing with the Emma? Plot.
Lysandre's Character? Plot. I included that because it just added to AZ's character by the ability to see the connections between them as characters.
AZ's stroyline? LORE. not explicitly fully talked about in the story, more missable than anything else, and not plot.

If you really want to know, Emma’s story comes after the main plot, in Lumiose City. Emma is an orphan who befriends Looker, the same Interpol agent from Platinum and Sun/Moon. Looker takes her in as his assistant, and she becomes the main part of the Looker Bureau storyline. She’s manipulated by Xerosic, one of Team Flare's scientists, who gives her a suit that enhances her strength and turns her into the vigilante “Essentia.” The suit slowly corrupts her, and Looker eventually rescues her from Team Flare’s influence. It’s one of the most touching side stories in the franchise, and it’s why she reappears in Z-A. Among with the fact she is probably one of the most interesting characters in pokemon.
I just made my account a few hours ago and there is already drama! Wowie!
But no, You are kinda wrong all over. The poster DID ask for lore, but you could've assumed they also meant plot, as they usually go hand in hand. You should probably start checking your comments before you put them here. Just a suggestion.
I’m not gonna argue with you if my wording fits your definition or not. It doesn’t change that you didn’t answer the question that I asked and clarified in the description of the question.

Thank you Komomo-o, you’re pretty spot on with what I mean as well
Yeah. I'll stop. I just wanted to point out that people keep calling me out specifically.
i'd like to agree that the description of the question makes pretty clear that it's asking about plot, if that distinction even matters. if you really wanna discuss if the poster really means plot or if they actually mean lore like their question says (or any other similar instances in the future) it would be best to bring it up before you answer the question, rather than being weird about that distinction after the person who asked the question rightfully complains about the answer being incomplete.
No one is targeting you specifically, it’s your quality of half-answers that are being addressed. If you don’t want it to happen, take advice and improve.
