On the 3DS when you put in someone's friend code I'm pretty sure it automatically comes up with whatever name they have given themselves on their 3DS system.
If you have used just a first name or some other nickname like "Pokemaster", that's fine. If you have put other personal information like your full name you should be a little more careful (though it's still probably fine).
