Yeah I read that a couple days ago actually (he accidentally posted a draft on the site). I have a few problems with the basic premise.
Let's get the big elephant in the room out of the way. Yes, all Pokémon fansites, and all Pokémon apps, are committing copyright infringement.
Except that you can't copyright facts or names, so an app saying "Pikachu learns Thundershock at level X" cannot be breaking copyright. The Pokemon images themselves, though, are copyright so I could easily remove them if need be.
This pretty must means the rest of the arguments fall down right there. The other part about "owning information" doesn't apply either, since we are not in any app stores and hence have not claimed to own any information (plus like above, you can't really own facts).
I'm certainly keeping an eye on the situation. But I'm not sure they will really do anything. As far as I know they have only targeted two apps - one in the iOS app store, one in the Android marketplace.
