So I've seen some people answer there own question, but can they select their own answer? If so ,it would be a terrible idea to give users the power to BA their own answers on their own questions.

Anyway, there are no real advantages in answering your own question. You do not get the 20 points from getting a BA if you select your own question, just the 2 points from actually selecting a BA . It should only be done if nobody is able to answer it for a certain period of time, and you figure out the answer yourself.
