Do comments need to follow the rules of spelling and grammar?

I was just wondering because I think how you type the question affects how the viewer reacts.

• If you write in all caps then it is like you are yelling or emphasizing something- since you cant use bold or italics
• If you write with txt speak then people know you are just joking around
• If you dont do anything then people think you are really serious

It's not quite as important in comments. But other people still have to read the comments so writing out words in full is better for everyone. Also, writing a ton of shorthand like 'u' really doesn't save you time (not on a keyboard anyway...on an old style mobile phone it does save a bit).
