Pokémon Rate My Team

So, Nubderator decided to make another OU team after his recent successes with his last two OU teams. Trying to follow the theme of using not abused Pokemon in OU, I created this team. Although the first couple are pretty standard, it gets less as you work your way down to the last few Pokemon. The goal of the team is to pave the way for my mixed sweepers to clean up. And so far, it has worked pretty darn well, although some players are pretty smart to figure out my plan. I hate laddering, so I haven't done that much. But I played a little with my alts NewAlt123, CoolAlt123, and the well known TestingAlt123 for some time. My sisters got into NewAlt123 and screwed it up by losing a little, but whatever. So, why not get into the team real quick?

Team Preview:

Synergy:

It says Rotom-W has a Ground weakness because it currently have an abilities option.

The team:

Jirachi @ Leftovers

Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 236 SDef / 20 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)

  • Stealth Rock
  • Body Slam
  • Iron Head
  • Wish

I am pretty certain that you all have faced this guy before. You all have been annoyed by it from its shenanigans. Jirachi's Instead of using the Scarfed Jirachi I used in the OU team before, I decided to opt for s Specially Defensive Jirachi because it gives the support I need for my sweepers. The EVs and Nature allow me to tank Special moves such as Draco Meteor and Psychic from Specs Latios easily, while outspeeding Adamant Breloom and Magnezone. Although I probably won't find a Adamant Breloomdue to the prevalence of Jolly ones, Poison Heal variants tend to run lower Speed EVs. As far as the moveset is concerned, Jirachi is running the standard support set. First up, Stealth Rock allows both my sweepers and others to secure KOs that they normally can't. The residual damage helps in wearing down the checks and counters to my Pokemon as well. Body Slam works great in the team because it has a 60% chance to Paralyze my opponent, allowing my sweepers to outspeed and kill. STAB Iron Head works in conjunction with Body Slam because it gets a 60% chance to Flinch, and the opponent will never stop hitting himself in the head because it is hard to break through Jirachi's paraflinch tactics. Wish provides good recovery to all my opponent, especially since Jirachi boasts a pretty high HP stat. Mixed sweepers usually carry Life Orb or Expert Belt, so Wish support is optimal.

Gliscor (F) @ Toxic Orb

Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)

  • Substitute
  • Protect
  • Toxic
  • Earthquake

Looking at my cute Jirachi in the eyes for 7 hours straight (7 Mew hours is the equivalent to 1 minute in human time), I can see that Jirachi is easily ravaged by the many strong Physical Attackers in the tier, such as Terrakion, Lucario, Garchomp, and Infernape. Unless I run a Shuca Berry lead Jirachi (which is getting pretty common...) or an Occa Bewwie, my team will get popped by a Physical sweeper. Gliscor's ability to take almost all Physical moves like a boss and heal it back up is what made it land it on the team. Base 125 Defense was perfect. Gliscor takes nearly all Physcial hits and will usually set up a Substitute in its face. With Poison Heal and Toxic Orb, Gliscor can heal off the damage caused by Substitute in 2 turns. This is facilitated by the use of Protect, which can check Choiced Pokemon's locked move, as well as gaining extra Poison Heal damage. Protect can also help me deal more damage with Toxic, because SubToxic stall with Protect easily racks up the damage. Finally, in case of Taunt or when my opponent is being worn down by stall, Gliscor's STAB Earthquake allows me to pick off weakened Pokemon and deal okay damage from Gliscor's uninvested 95 Base Attack stat. Gliscor's utility helps serve a couple of purposes. Besides a Rock Gem Swords Dance set, Gliscor counters Terrakion, who can wipe out my sweeping core with its good typing. Secondly, Gliscor wears down crucial Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, who can only Power Whip it.

I am now testing Baton Pass instead of Toxic, so my sweepers have easier trips into the battlefield.

Terrakion @ Choice Scarf

Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

  • Stone Edge
  • Close Combat
  • X-Scissor
  • Earthquake

Terrakion is one of the best Scarfers in the OU metagame. Due to its godly offensive typing, as well as great Attack and Speed, it forces switches and helps ease prediction. Because I am currently a lazy bum, I will just give you a description from my old team.

>
That meme speaks the truth. Terrakion's glorious offensive typing allows it to cover a huge part of the OU metagame easily. However, extremely dedicated Physical walls, such as Skarmory, Landorus-T, Gliscor, and Hippowdon, give Terrakion a bit of trouble, but Gliscor screws those Pokemon over easily. As well as a future teammate. EVs give Terrakion maximum attacking potential as well as 4 SDef EVs to stop Downloaders from getting a special attack boost. STAB Stone Edge, also known as Stone Miss, has great coverage with its other STAB, Close Combat. These two moves present good coverage, and often make the other moves on the set generally used less. However, X-Scissor is my option against Psychic Pokemon, especially Latias coming in to take a Choice Close Combat. Earthquake is redundant with Terrakion's STABs, but it is useful in multiple cases. Pokemon such as Jirachi, Tentacruel, and Toxicroak all are hit harder with it.

Rotom-W @ Leftovers

Trait: Levitate
EVs: 232 HP / 56 SAtk / 220 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

  • Hydro Pump
  • Volt Switch
  • Hidden Power [Ice]
  • Will-O-Wisp

Rotom-W is in this team. Once again.
I just can't get away from its epic typing and the amount of switches it causes, and its access to Volt Switch...
EVs allow it to:

Survive from:

  • 252+ Thunder Thundurus-T
  • 252 Choice Specs Secret Sword Keldeo
  • 252+ Outrage Garchomp
  • 252+ Life Orb ExtremeSpeed Lucario

Outspeed:

  • Timid Politoed
  • Jolly Breloom
  • Adamant Mamoswine

>Rotom-W can force switches due to its great typing and it's access to a pivoting move; in this case, it's STAB Volt Switch. Volt Switch puts lots of pressure on rain teams, due to the Water types on them. Also, it synergizes well with STAB Hydro Pump for multiple reasons. Pokemon that switch into Rotom-W's Volt Switch are typically Ground Pokemon, and they get nailed with Hydro Pump. More importantly, rain teams have Politoed, who is scared to take Volt Switch at times, and rain teams tend to pack a Pokemon that has a Electric absorbing Pokemon, such as Thundurus-T and Jolteon. Rain boosted Hydro Pump usually knocks them out, unless Hydro Miss gets in the way. Thundurus-T is only knocked out with Stealth Rock on the field if Rain isn't up.

As for Rotom-W's other two moves. Hidden Power [Ice] gives me a move to accurately hit Gliscor without using Hydro Pump, Breloom, and the various Dragon type Pokemon in OU. Will-O-Wisp allows me to neutralize Scizor and Breloom, two really big threats team with their priority. Bolstering the team's Defense as a whole allows Gliscor's SubPassing to be very efficient.

Salamence (F) @ Life Orb

Trait: Moxie
EVs: 64 Atk / 192 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)

  • Draco Meteor
  • Fire Blast
  • Outrage
  • Earthquake

The legendary Salamence returns, after being shunned in its tiny little corner by its archenemy, Multiscale Dragonite. But think about it. What can Salamence do that Dragonite has trouble doing? The answer is obviously that fact that it hasn't begged Gamefreak for a slightly better Speed. On the more serious note, however, Salamence has the ability to break through Physical walls like a Salamenace.
Okay, that was bad.
But the legendary MixMence set is efficient in breaking the premier Physical walls in the metagame, namely Ferrothorn, Slowbro, Forretress, Skarmory, Hippowdon, and Gliscor. All of them prove difficult for Physical sweepers to break through. With a heavier Special Attack investment as well as base 115 Special Attack, Salamence can have mixed sweeping potential.
EVs allow Salamence to 2HKO every variant of Hippowdon and speed tie with other base 100s, such as Mew, Celebi, Volcarona, and Jirachi.
STAB Draco Meteor is the surprising factor of the set. With heavy Special Attack investment, Gliscor and Slowbro take heavy damage from it. Any Steel type Pokemon that switch into Draco Meteor are usually nailed hard by Fire Blast straight after, forming the well known Draco-Fire combination, a combination only Heatran can sponge. Since the Special moves will lure and usually faint the Physical Wall, as well as the accumulation of Moxie boosts allow Salamence to clean up using Outrage, usually KOing or weakening the rest of the opposing team. Earthquake gets Heatran and has good neutral coverage with the rest of the moves Salamence has.

Zoroark (M) @ Life Orb

Trait: Illusion
EVs: 200 Atk / 92 SAtk / 216 Spd
Lonely Nature (+Atk, -Def)

  • Sucker Punch
  • Low Kick
  • Flamethrower
  • Hidden Power [Ice]

The star of the team.
Okay, okay. Literally, Jirachi is the star of the team, being a actual star and all.
Otherwise, Zoroark is :3
EVs allow Zoroark to do more Sucker Punch damage, KO Heatran after hazards, as well as being able to OHKO Ferrothorn. Speed hits 300, allowing it to outspeed all neutral base 100s. The main selling point of Zoroark is STAB Sucker Punch, which hits unsuspecting Latias, Latios, and Starmie all for the OHKO. Yeah, its that strong. Zoroark's Sucker Punch is valued due to it being my only form of priority. Let me steal some damage calculations from Smogon really quickly:

>Sucker Punch vs. 252/4 Reuniclus: 91.98% - 108.25%
Sucker Punch vs. 0/0 Tornadus: 69.57% - 81.61%
Sucker Punch vs. 4/0 Venusaur: 59.93% - 70.86%
Sucker Punch vs. 0/0 Salamence: 56.19% - 66.16%

Can I say ouchies?
Jirachi provides residual damage for Sucker Punch as well, so Zoroark is labeled as the late game sweeper. On expected Tyranitar and Heatran appearances, Low Kick is the best bet as it does deal a lot of damage to them, OHKOing TTar as well as getting Heatran after hazards. Flamethrower is used on Ferrothorn and Forretress, taking them out, most of the time. Finally, Hidden Power [Ice] hits the many Ice weaknesses of OU, and allows me to scare off Landorus-T.

When Zoroark is Illusioned as:

  • Jirachi: Jirachi's counters are almost all destroyed by Zoroark. All Steel Pokemon fall to Low Kick and Flamethrower, like Ferrothorn, Forretress, and Heatran. Landorus-T, a common lead for many teams, stays on Jirachi to get Stealth Rocks up. Good luck taking a Hidden Power Ice to the face.

  • Gliscor: When Zoroark comes in, it is usually at powerful Special Attacking Psychic Pokemon, which happen to be Starmie, Latios, and Latias. Hello Sucker Punch. Bronzong, another common switch into Gliscor, is hurt by Flamethrower.

  • Rotom-W: Rotom-W is troubled by bulky Grass types, such as Ferrothorn and Celebi. Luckily Ferrothorn knows that Rotom-W can use Flamethrower, and Celebi knows that Sucker Punch is in Rotom-W's movepool.

  • Terrakion: Terrakion has problems with Gliscor and Landorus-T, mostly. Hello Hidden Power Ice.

  • Salamence: Salamence is a bit tricky to use Zoroark with. Although Steels can switch in and get annihilated by Flamethrower and Low Kick, there's not much else.
