After being a participant of the STABmons tour, i can proudly say that I successfully took the win. Although I did have it easier than the likes of Flafpert or Gligurr (my UU round opponent forfeit), it was still rather difficult to build strong, offensive teams (my style) that could break through common cores.
NU Round
NU was easily my most solid squad, no exceptions. However, everyone was playing NU like it was Ubers, just getting a free set-up once their Kangaskhan came in on something it threatened. Of course, you had the losers who ran Ditto, but they don't count. :]
Seeing I had to build this like an Uber team (after a practice with Flafpert or Mike, I believe), I decided to make mons similar to Uber mons. Vivillon was the first to appear on the team. Just being a Sleep inducer isnt reason enough to pick Vivillon, at least not for me. What sold me to using him was Hurricane. This allowed it to all switch ins that were sleep immune (Primape and grass types). It originally was like a QD 2 attacks set, but even in singles, that set sucks bad. So I decided to optimize. I made it a Sub Sash lead set. How does it work? Well, it guarantees your sleep. Then, you have 1 free turn of doing whatever you want. You can sub up if a spooky threat is gonna come in; you can Tail Glow if you have a favorable matchup against the opponent; you can Oblivion wing to restore health if you moved second. This is key, since not all attacks can break Vivi's sash, thus allowing you to come back in later and get the guaranteed sleep.
Next, we have the fire member. While Rapidash was the last member on the final team, it doesn't mean it was the worst. Since it outspeed a great majority of the tier, it was a nice option, especially against people who though Scrubtom-F was good. Rapidash was just solid against all. It also helped as a status inducer, thanks to Sacred Fire, and it gave me a really nice Fire immunity (I believe Typhlosion was NU at the time). Anyways, Rapidash is a pro who pretty much put the spook into the opponent, rather than sweep.
At last, the best damn mon of NU. You though Vivillon was my lead? Lol think again (insert FE:A Chrom's VA here). Liepard is a godsend in NU, having Prankster, so it can stop all these bad set-up scrubs. It is also a Sash breaker (although I didnt encounter any other sash leads), and easily the best pivot. I also gave it some priority [sucker punch] after Fake Out, as it didnt want it to e completely useless. I used a dread plate bc Liepard doesnt need the lefties (too much pivoting, not enough staying in), and Silk Scarf wasnt going to make Fake Out any more powerful lol. So i went with a Dread Plate + Sucker Punch, as well as slapping an Adamant nature on it, since I had no intentions of outspeeding an opposing Liepard.
Then we got the Ekiller. All these hoes were raging because they couldnt beat Kangaskhan lol. Tough luck. I went for a SubSD set with a Lum Berry, not needing the Lefties or Silk Scarf because 1.) Liepard TWave is annoying, so I gotta have my Kanga healthy and always moving, and 2.) it allowed me to have a check for opposing sleep inducers. Sub allowed me to fight off opposing Kangakhans, since I'm not running max speed, meaning I would almost always lose the speed wars. Instead, I went for attack, as it allowed me probably get more KO's, and I could always Drain Punch my way back to reasonable amounts of HP. And no Ekiller is complete without Espeed.
Ya thought 1 Scrappy was enough? Pangoro is the tank for the team. Any damage another member cant afford, Pangoro will take. Yet another SD mon, but his role is quite different. It was to spread powerful Knock Off's (somewhat like Bisharp) and then heal up with Drain Punch. Additionally, it is able to get Sucker Punch, giving me yet another check to spooky set-ups like Sash Accelgor (Sucker Punch + Liepard's Fake Out).
Samurott is the Kyogre representative on this Ubers-like NU team. Just give it a Scarf and spam Water Spout. However, thanks to everyone running like 5 priority moves (I'm no different), O had to have a backup. Steam Eruption was thankfully legal for the tourney, so something close to Hydro Pump's power + Scald's chance to burn was too good to pass up. Next is Ice Beam, just for the good coverage. Lastly, the questionable Megahorn. Megahorn was specifically used to beat Ludicolo scrubs outside of rain.
