As you probably gathered from the title, I'm making a UU team centered around Mega Absol, but I'm having a hard time deciding who I should use for my last two slots (well, only one now; Amoonguss has been suggested). I also haven't battled in the UU tier in a while (only about a handful of battles this Gen? My first Gen 7 UU team got boring quick), so I'm not sure what I should really be looking out for, which naturally led me here. Here's what I got so far:
Absol-Mega @ Absolite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Play Rough
- Iron Tail
The star of the show. Swords Dance / Sucker Punch makes a deadly combo on any Pokémon, but Mega Absol can use it better than most because its ability becomes Magic Guard, so now the opponent can't even throw out a Toxic or Will-O-Wisp. Plus, its dark-typing is STAB and anti-prankster. Play Rough provides Fighting and Dark coverage, who resist Sucker Punch, and Iron Tail for the fourth slot to cover fairies, who would also resist SP.
Mew @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe

- Stealth Rock
- Defog
- U-turn
Kind of a suicide lead? Minus the suicide part? This set was originally intended for Archeops (due to its superior speed), but I switched to Mew because everyone was suggesting it (and the fact it only takes neutral damage from Stealth Rocks doesn't hurt). So here we are. This set is pretty straightforward; Even though Mew has 100 speed, instead of 110 like Archeops, it can still outrun most setup pokemon (that aren't prankster) and taunt them before they can make a move. Stealth Rock is very useful, because Absol's subpar defenses leave it susceptible to focus sash revenge-killers. Defog to clear away any hazards the opponent might have managed to get past me, and U-Turn to preserve Mew in case I need to reset my rocks / remove opponent's hazards.
Keldeo-Resolute @ Waterium Z
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Secret Sword
- Scald
- Calm Mind
- Hidden Power [???] (Flying has been suggested, but maybe Fire?)
This guy's meant to be my special sweeper / second win condition in case Mega Absol gets KO'd. This set's more or less standard Keldeo, although I haven't set it to HP Ice yet because I was going to wait until I built up the rest of my team and see what coverage it was missing (and I have received a suggestion for HP Flying to cover Grass and Bug, although I guess Fire would work too, wouldn't it?).
Scizor @ Rocky Helmet / Leftovers
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- U-Turn
Because Swords Dance works miracles on everything. Bullet Punch is STAB+Technician+guaranteed priority (rather than conditional priority like Sucker Punch) and U-Turn for momentum. Originally I had Baton Pass instead of Superpower (because why not bring in Absol already at +2 attack?), but apparently Baton Pass is banned in UU, so Superpower for coverage. Kind of debating between Rocky Helmet and Leftovers; please suggest (leaning toward the helmet).
Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 56 HP / 252 Def / 200 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spore
- Substitute
- Giga Drain
- Clear Smog
Amoonguss was suggested as a safe switch-in for Fighting/Bug/Fairy types Absol might not want to deal with. This is a pretty self-explanatory set; Spore because it can, Substitute immediately after Spore because why not, Giga Drain for health, and Clear Smog so that I can't be set up against.
Vital things this team doesn't have:
- Ground coverage
- Fire coverage
- (Probably) a counter to some Pokémon that I don't realize is running rampage through UU right now.
Things I usually like to have on my teams that this one currently doesn't:
- A Toxic-staller
- A Protect-user (I always like to have something that can stall behind protect)
Is there anything in the UU tier that will just completely destroy this team (or, heck, just Mega Absol) that I need a counter for? Thanks in advance.
