So, I haven't really played OU since Gen 6. I used to play it all the time when playing ORAS, but as Gen 7 started, I tried to play around with RU a bit, since I haven't really done that very much. I'm back now, and I want to try making a team for OU once again. This will probably be really bad, just warning you.
So when I first started making the team, I wanted a tanky hazard setter. I have used Ferrothorn before, and I enjoyed it a lot. I recently used Skarmory a little bit, but I couldn't utilize him as well as Ferrothorn, so I opted out on him.
For this team, I decided to pick the classic Ferrothorn.
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers/Rocky Helmet?
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Knock Off
This Pokemon used to be a cornerstone on my team, and probably will be in the future too. I usually opted for a defensive Ferrothorn with Rocky Helmet, just because it used to throw people off balance, but perhaps it's not the age of the Rocky Helmet anymore.
Pretty standard moves as far as the set goes. I know that some people like using Spikes more, but I've always liked using Stealth Rock more. Leech Seed and Power Whip for coverage, and the Knock Off to get rid of items or just for the occasional Psychic type. There used to be a few Latios and M-Metagross back in Gen 6, I don't think that they're as prevalent right now, but you never know.
My second Pokemon I decided to pick is Rotom-W.
Rotom-Wash @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 128 HP / 128 Def / 20 SDef / 236 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Trick
I kinda like a Choice Scarf set, but I kinda don't know what I want to do with Rotom honestly. This will probably be the Pokemon that can be edited the most, just because I don't really know what it uses nowadays.
Third Pokemon that I wanted was a spinner. This is a tough one. I've used Blastoise and Starmie before, but they've fallen down the tiers, and I'm simply not sure what to have. Excadrill seems like the only spinner right now, but I really can't use him effectively. Should I try to learn how to use Excadrill or should I just get a defogger? I don't particularly like using defoggers, but they seem to be the new spinners, so I might have to.
But yes, this spot is completely open, because I don't know what I really want to have or what I can use.
For my fourth and fifth slots, I wanted a fast physical attacker and a fast special attacker.
For my physical attacker, I went for M-Lopunny.
Lopunny @ Lopunnite
Ability: Limber
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Return
- High Jump Kick
- Ice Punch
- Fake Out
This is a pretty straightforward Pokemon to use. It's fast, it hits hard, it sorta has priority, etc. Fake Out is so strong in mega form. Rest of moveset is pretty self-explanatory.
My special attacker is Tapu Koko.
Tapu Koko @ Electrium Z
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Roost
- Hidden Power Ice
- U-turn
Move was taken straight from Smogon, since I haven't played at all with Tapu Koko, and I really don't know how to use him properly yet. I've seen a friend play with him though, and he seemed very strong, so I want to try him out.
In the last spot, I was looking for a Pokemon that was simply great all-around and could fit any team. The answer I found was Landorus-T.
Landorus-Therian @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Hidden Power Ice
- Stone Edge
Probably trash set, so feel free to do whatever you want with it.
Thank you for any and all help!
