When a Pokémon is present in slots 4-6 of Box 8 (or Box 7's slots 26-28 in Japanese Emerald) of the Pokémon Storage System, black pixels with a certain form are written on the sides of the windows of Rustboro City's Pokémon Trainer's School, based on the particular Pokémon.

Slot 4 controls a small portion of tiles near the top of the window, while slot 5 controls a large portion of tiles around the middle, with slot 6 controlling a small portion of tiles near the bottom.

When Pokémon fill all the affected the slots, curtain-like graphics typically appear, but one can manipulate this bug (i.e. by having slot 4 and slot 6 occupied but not slot 5) to make the pixels not resemble curtains as much.

Specifically, with memory-address location randomization disabled, the tiles depend on the data from addresses $0202DAE4-$0202DB43. Each byte can control 1-2 pairs of pixels for the left and east-most sides.

The bug occurs because data for tiles with IDs greater than 790 is overwritten with Pokémon data and the pixels on the window depend on the data of tiles 791-793.

When glitch Pokémon have been seen on the save file, the player's Hall of Fame is badly corrupted with entirely different Pokémon, even glitch Pokémon, and very glitched characters, names and levels. This does not affect the Pokémon themselves, rather the data seen in the Hall of Fame, and is caused by the contents of the sprite decompression buffer that is stored in SRAM overflowing into memory allocated for save data when a glitch Pokémon's sprite is decompressed.

And then he makes the kids fight wild animals, gladiator style

He sorta does that, actually. You see, the armor the competitors wear is based off of animals. This is because animals are often stronger, faster, and so on, than humans. Therefore stronk. Here's some random stuff about the characters' armor/fighting style.

The protagonist's armor resembles a bird. But all the feathers are sharp blades. He's quite fast and likes to attack from above (I imagine there are stuff to grab onto in the fight ring thingy that you can use to do just that). His boots also have metal talons on them that are great for defense. Nobody can pin that lad down.

The protagonist's best friend's armor resembles an... ant. Wow. So impressive. However, the 'ant's' legs, antennae, and mandibles are all long, sharp, curved blade... spike... things. That makes it harder to attack her from the front, because if you get too close, you might end up badly injured. Instead of attacking from above like her pal, she prefers to charge opponents, for obvious reasons.

Vohra is... interesting. I imagine his armor is reptilian. I dunno what reptile exactly (considering a snake but how am I supposed to pull that off?), but he needs a tail. Why? So he can slam it into his opponents with a lot of force, obviously. Anyway, when he's supposed to fight, he actually takes off his armor. Why exactly is unknown (as in I haven't thought of a reason but it's a good reason to give him snake armor because snakes shed their skin), but it likely makes him more quick and nimble, not that he had a problem with being slow. He's really fast to begin with. Anyway, he, like the protagonist, likes to attack from above. But he's really fast. Faster than protagonist guy. Runs circles around him.
