Can I trade an egg in link trade for a Pokemon?

For C gear local link up trade (I think its infrared connection) can you trade an egg(instead of a Pokemon) for a Pokemon in the trade options?

As of gen 5, you can.

Yes. You can trade eggs like any other regular poke.
