Some do. Kanto is named after an actual region of Japan, Johto means Castle Palace, Hoenn means "rich relationship", Sinnoh means "god within", and Unova (which is based on New York)'s name in Japanese, Isshu, comes from tashu, many kinds, and isshu, one kind.

Thanks, Japanese language has always fascinated me.
They have for me as well. I have, strangely enough, started to recognise the conjugated form of "kami". That is all thanks to the Skypiea Arc of One Piece and Deathnote.
