PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

When I near a Pokemon and the game switches from map mode to camera mode, I do not see any background. I'm told it is supposed to show the real world with a Pokemon superimposed, but all I see is a white background. The AR is on. Does anyone know how to fix this? My camera works fine otherwise. I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 with the most recent software update. Thanks for any advice!

What is map mode? My sister has an android phone and the camera works fine but when she uses AR it says that the app cannot detect the phone's camera orientation, so AR doesn't work.
what fairytail said AR doesnt work
When I say map mode I am just referring to the map of streets that you see around your avatar when you open the app but there are no Pokemons around. I am new to the game so I am not familiar with all the proper terminology.

I do not get an error message, per se, but I do not see the real world through the camera. Only a totally white background.
What do you mean? you can only see the real world while catching the Pokemon.
If u have the latest update, it's marshmallow which has granular permissions. So you'll have to give permission for the app to use the camera.
Go to settings -> applications -> pokemon go -> permissions.
And toggle camera permission
Darkheart,  that was the problem! It worked. Thank you!!

Since no one is removing this of the un-answered list I'll quote what Darkheart said:
