What is Poipole based on?

Poipole, the pre-evolution of Naganadel, is the Poison Pin Pokémon and is typed as Poison.

Please include the name origin and what it's based on design-wise.

Poipole isn't really based off of anything, but it is mostly interpreted as a sticky friendly purple baby that is apparently another universe's starter, its name most likely comes from poison and pole (however I believe its name comes from poi, which is a native Hawaiian sticky sweet grayish purplish sauce, and I have no idea what pole is there for, but I'm pretty sure it just sounds good for a name). The design kind of looks like a syringe, that is pretty much all there is to say about it. And its Japanese name is Bebenomu, which also means baby. If you want a better description ask James Turner, the original designer of poipole.

I'd like to add that this Bulbapedia article says:

Poipole is based on a bee larva. Like its evolution, its needle-like appendages resembles the plunger of a syringe, with the head representing the barrel or tube and the venom representing the liquid inside.

The same article also states:

Poipole is a combination of poison and pole. It is also a play on purple. It may also incorporate tadpole, as it is the infantile stage of Naganadel.
