I know that nidoking is better than rhydon, but what about rhyperior?
My team (yes I'm a gen1 fan):
Charizard
Victreebel
Gyarados
Gengar
Scizor
Rhyperior /nidoking

Is this for battling other people, the Battle Tree, or in-game trainers?

there's not really a right or wrong answer in these types of questions. But based on the types and weaknesses I'd have to go with nidoking. Both of them get good movesets. but rhyperior has 3 4x weaknesses (being ice, water and grass) and 6 weaknesses in total while nidoking has 0 4x weaknesses and 4 weaknesses in total so based on my opinion i'd go with nidoking

Rhyperior has only two 4x weaknesses (water and grass). It has 2x ice weakness. But Rhyperior is good offensively, though I would suggest Nidoking as it could learn waste no. of TMs and TRs and can be a good mixed attacker for in-game.
