Would this strategy work? (answered)?

Question

I want to pair an Eldegoss with a Malamar in doubles. The plan is to make Malamar use protect, and Eldegoss gets hit. Cotton down lowers the opponents speed, and raises Malamars.

However, I'm not sure if this would work.

edit: appearently it's really popular in doubles uu, and that means it does work.

This strategy does work, but it's extremely gimmiky and doomed to fail. It relies on them targeting eldegoss, eldegoss getting a sleep power off and the opponents not resisting your attacks.
