What's in the Mystery Egg, or is it used for something?

Is the Mystery Egg a Pokemon egg, if so what's in it, is it random? And if it's not a Pokemon egg, does it have a use?

It eventually evolves into a Togepi, so yes it is used and yes it's a Pokemon egg.
