Can you play through Scarlet or Violet without Cyclizar?

Question

Cyclizar and the two legendaries it probably evolves into appear very important to the games. Is it possible to progress through the game without them being a part of your team?

I thought you were given Koraidon/Miraidon, not Cyclizar. :/

This will contain minor spoilers for Scarlet and Violet regarding the legendries, but no new Pokemon will be spoiled.

Very early on, you are given your box art Pokemon exclusively as a ride Pokemon instead of Cyclizar. You cannot obtain the box legends to utilize in battle until later in the game.

So, follow-up questions, does the box art occupy a slot in the team? Or will it be more like Mega Lati@s in ORAS? And if it occupies a team slot, how much would you be restricted by keeping it in the PC?

They function like the Mega Lati twins. They don't take up a separate slot in the party when not in their battle form and cannot be placed in the box. You will gain access to another one that can be used in battle and can be traded away, however. (According to Austin John Plays on Youtube.)

Miraidon/Koraidon supposedly act as a 7th Team member (in conjunction with a Full Team of 6), since you cannot Box in, Release it, or Trade it.

Although, you can catch a second of your Box Art Legendary in the lowest part of Area Zero.

No, because we have Koraidon and Miraidon so we do not need Cyclizar to be able to get around.

We don't know if Cyclizar is required to be part of the team however, just as Rotom wasn't required to be in your team to function a Rotom Pokedex or a Roto Bike
