Should I use Cetitan or Avalugg for my Pokemon violet team?

Avalugg is very slow and has a vulnerable defensive stat, which makes it annoying to use in playthroughs.

you should use cetitan since it has a lot more pros:

give it slush rush if you want to out speed most of grushas team, sheer force is big damage, personally I would go sheer force cause of ice shard priority, ice spinner and bulldoze will work great with sheer force.
here are some movesets:

Cetitan @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Ice Shard
- Ice Spinner
- Bulldoze
- Liquidation

Cetitan @ icy rock
Ability: Slush Rush
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Snowscape
- Ice Spinner
- Ice Shard
- Liquidation

avalugg is a also a powerhouse:

Avalugg @ Icy Rock
Ability: Ice Body
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Snowscape
- Aurora Veil
- Icicle Crash
- Body Press

I strongly suggest Cetitan.

Speed and raw strength are the only things that matter in casual playthroughs. Yes, Avalugg is an outstanding tank in terms of shrugging of physical attacks, he is horrendouly slow and has a worthless Sp. Def stat.

Cetitan has raw strength -- just like Avalugg -- and impressive bulk -- also like Avalugg. Despite his defenses, at least Cetitan's bulk goes into his HP, meaning he can survive a flamethrower... unlike Avalugg. Not to mention, Cetitan has better abilities. Sheer Force slapped onto a good moveset lets him destroy whoever crosses his path, and Thick Fat makes fire type moves of normal effectiveness. However, Slush Rush is where it's at. This guy really can sweep.

I AM NOT SAYING AVALUGG IS BAD, BUT CETITAN IS SIMPLY MORE EFFECTIVE.

With some simple Mirror Herb picnic stuff with Makuhita, you can access Belly Drum. After that, the rest is easy.

Cetitan @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Slush Rush / Thick Fat
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Ice Spinner / Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Play Rough

Make sure to have a snow setter if you choose to run Slush Rush Cetitan.

If you still want to go with Avalugg, use this.

Avalugg @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Own Tempo
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def |OR| 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Avalanche
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Heavy Slam

Answer: use whichever one you like more!

Cetitan's base stat spread is better, and Thick Fat is a good ability. Cetitan gets access to Play Rough, and at 700 kg its Heavy Slam is really good.

However, Avalugg's Body Press is phenomenal thanks to its high base Defense. And unlike Cetitan it has access to Rock-type attacks.

Overall, I would choose Cetitan for a Violet playthrough.

All the moves mentioned here come quite late in the playthrough. I think factors like level-up movepool, Bergmite's late evolution, how each fare in key fights, etc. are relevant for more of the time you spend playing.

I currently build a Cetitan, breed with a Zangoose and you can get Belly Drum for it.
It have good multiple combination of moves so you have more choice for your build.
And all it's abilities are good, but because I build it offensively so I probably use Slush Rush instead.

What do you think about Avalugg, you just stated Cetitan’s advantages.
Well, Avalugg is super slow, which i don't recommend for playthrough.
Although it's Def is super, but it's Sp. Def is the contrary so it's too risky.
Sure both Cetitan's Def & Sp. Def are below average, but it's super HP is covering them.
Avalugg's movepool is great tho', many choices here as well.
You can take advantage of it's stat by teaching it Body Press and Avalanche.
In the end there's no single answer for this, it depends on your current team, their movesets, and what's your vision for the perfect team.
