It’s so pretty and it’s okay if it’s a mix of moths. I’m also fine if there’s no real answer.

Though there's no official answer, it's most likely based on a mixture of:

  • Arctic woolly bear moths
  • Moon moths
  • Clearwing moths
  • Glasswing butterflies

Frosmoth may be based on the Gynaephora genus of alpine or Arctic moths. One particular species, the arctic woolly bear moth, can enter a dormant state that allows it to endure temperatures as low as −94 °F (−70 °C).

Given its size, the tails on its wings, and green-hued Shiny palette, Frosmoth may also draw inspiration from the Actias genus of giant silk moths, also known as moon moths or luna moths, and, as suggested by its Chinese names, white flannel moths. The small amount it eats compared to Snom in Pokémon Camp may also reference how adult giant silk moths are unable to eat due to their vestigial mouthparts and lack of a digestive system. Its translucent wings may have been inspired by clearwing moths (Hemaris or Sesiidae) or glasswing butterflies.
