This is my first time playing a Pokémon game ever. What are some good rock types? I have 6 gym badges currently.

Why do you need a rock Pokemon?
Gigalith is great as an in-game trade for Emolga on Route 10 I believe? The route north of Mistralton

The best Rock type is probably Terrakion. Even though it comes late (Route 22 after defeating Marlon), its high Attack and strong movepool will prove a valuable asset for the rest of the game.

Terrakion
- Rock Slide (when caught)
- Sacred Sword (when caught)
- Swords Dance (Level 49)
- Strength (HM)

If you'd like a Rock type that comes earlier, your best bet is probably Gigalith. By trading an Emolga on Route 7, you can obtain a high-power teammate with a robust level-up movepool.

Gigalith
- Rock Slide (Level 30)
- Strength (HM)
- Stealth Rock (Level 36) / Iron Head (Driftveil Move Tutor)
- Bulldoze (TM from Clay)

Is stealth rock that useful in singleplayer? I think it's better to have both iron head and bulldoze.
Stealth Rock is more helpful in BW2 than usual due to Iris' Focus Sash Haxorus. It also has some utility against Shauntal's two Rock-weak Pokemon. You can also use it against Colress if you really hate Sturdy, but that's more of an edge case than the other two.

I put Iron Head and Bulldoze as options in case the asker wants to use their Red Shards on a different Pokemon, but I guess it would make more sense to choose it versus Stealth Rock instead.
