I have an Android phone from 2024 and whenever I try to connect my 3ds to it, it will connect for about 15 seconds before kicking itself off. I turned off my security on the mobile hotspot to allow my 3ds to connect. it used to work back in 2023 but I can't figure out for the life of me how to connect it again. any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Not really a Pokemon question but I think we should keep this. Couple points:
- What model is the phone and what version of Android? Any patch level or UI version info from the "about" page in settings may also be relevant.
- What error does the 3DS give you?
- Does the hotspot connection work on other devices?
- How many times did you try again? I sometimes see the first connection test dies but the second works.
-the model is Moto G play (2024) and the patch level is Android 14 the latest update being from July 1st 2025
-the 3DS shoots me the Error code 51200 after connecting for about 15 seconds.
-the hotspot connection doesn't really work on other devices. I wonder if that's it.
-I try at least 1-3 times when I set a new DNS
Also, what guide are you using to set it up and which game is it?
I'm using the guide you posted a while ago and my knowledge of how it used to work. https://pokemondb.net/pokebase/383345/how-to-obtain-all-the-gen-4-5-mystery-gifts?show=383345#q383345
and I'm trying to get it to work for Pearl
- Are you able to try again? I updated the DNS in the answer and there has been a Wiimmfi maintenance since you posted.
- 51200 is an unusual error code. If you see that again, what else does it tell you?
it doesn't give error code 51200 anymore but instead it gives me
52101 which says
"Unable to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi connection. Confirm Connection settings and Access point settings.
for help, visit www.Nintendowifi.com
and when I do manual setup and input the hotspot name, it gives me 51200 which says the same thing as 52101
Wiimmfi's error code lookup says 521XX indicates DNS failure, which is strange. Not saying I don't believe it but I suspect the issue is with your phone's hotspot generally, especially if other devices can't use the internet from it either.
Some things to try:
- Restart the phone
- Connect the phone to a different network and then re-enable the hotspot
- Delete all three connection setups on the DS and restart the process from the guide
- Try connecting to Mystery Gift even if the connection test fails
- Borrow a friend's phone and see if the same setup on your DS will work with that
