Just a simple question - which games have shiny-locked starters, and which games don't? Thanks!

From what I remember, all games from Sword and Shield onwards have shiny locked starters. So you cant get shiny starters in every game released before Sword and Shield.
You mean the starters at the start of the game, right?
Assuming you mean for resets at the start of the game:

RBGY: I’m not sure if these can be “hunted” without glitches; I’ll have to look into that
GCS: Can
RES: Can
FRLG: can
DPPT: Can
HGSS: can and should! lol
BW/2: can
XY: can?
ORAS: can
SM: Can
USUM: Can
LGPE: Cannot
SWSH: Cannot
BDSP: Can
LA: idk lmao
SV: Cannot
ZA: Idk lmao

All starters can be hunted later throughout the game (except RBGY). I might go through this and verify with sources, and find out about RBGY, and post an answer later. In the meantime, here’s it simply.

Lmk if anything is wrong chat
XY can, the resets just take a long time.
Scarlet violet dlc has a bunch of starters to shiny hunt althogh you have to grind to get them
3000 BP!!!
@Silver Wow, I can get shiny starters in BDSP? Welp, time to start grinding for that pink monkey
Resets take forever, but yup! Bdsp isn’t shiny locked :) you may encounter a shiny starly while hunting though, just a heads up, as that also isn’t shiny locked

Assuming you mean for starters obtained from the start of the game…

Can the starters be shiny at the start of the game (yes/no):

RBGY: Technically yes
GCS: Yes
RSE: Yes
FRLG: Yes
DPPT: Yes
HGSS: Yes
BW/2: Yes
XY: Yes
ORAS: Yes
SM: Yes
USUM: Yes
LGPE: No
SWSH: No
BDSP: Yes
LA: No
SV: No
ZA: probably No but unconfirmed at this point

All starters can be hunted later throughout the game through different methods (breeding, dlc) (except RBGY as there's no breeding).

Would be easier to skim if you put yes/no for each one.
My brain last night said “if I say yes/no what am I saying yes/no to?”
I think I was overtired lol
