Say I had a Missingno in red or blue. And I kept trading it to later games. Gen 2 then gen 3 then gen 4 and I keep going until I get to poke bank and poke home. Could this work to get a Missingno in scarlet or violet?

Generation II cannot trade with later games, so that would be the end of the line for MissingNo. on physical cartridges. In reality, though, it can't even go that far — the Time Capsule does not let it through.

The other option is the Virtual Console release of Generation I on the 3DS, which can communicate with Pokémon Bank. Here too MissingNo. (as well as all other glitch Pokémon) will fail to transfer. It seems MissingNo. is doomed to languish in Generation I forever.

Might be useful info, I somehow corrupted a Pokemon in Heartgold, and it became a glitch Pokemon. It was unable to be transferred anywhere, even with hacks, and it crashed the game whenever I tried to hover over it in the box. I’m not sure if that can be considered missingno, but it was glitched nonetheless lol
For a second I thought I could have one of my favourite ‘’pokemon’’ in a newer game but I guess it’s not meant to be. and silver, what was this glitch pokemons name?
It would not let me view it at all lol, it’s sprite was a “?” And I couldn’t hover over it at al.

Unfortunately you’re doomed to never get a real missingno past gen 2 </3 there’s a bunch of other glitch Pokemon in gen 3 though! And lesser but still extent in new games. Although they aren’t “functional”
If I can’t catch Missingno then I must catch Decamark- even if I can’t name it or look at its summary without my game crashing

Amethyst’s answer is incomplete, it is correct, but it is only the start. Amethyst is right that you can’t transfer MissingNo into Bank or trade into gen 2 there is still cross generation things to do with MissingNo. For one, in the trade box in gen 2 you can still see the MissingNo before you trade it and it can appear as a range of Pokemon . From what I’ve seen it looks like only when you accept a trade that it puts the error.

Upon further research, you can put MissingNo (and more glitched Pokemon ) ( Although I am not sure how, if I find out I will edit) into Stadium 1 and it turns into a substitute doll (There is vague information on this so I assume forever). In Stadium 2 it turns into a buggy ditto that becomes a normal ditto when saved. That’s all I have to say for MissingNo.

Beyond the reign of MissingNo:
I think that this question has been slightly ignored, it has zero upvotes right now and I say that because I want to point out how truly interesting this question is when you look a little farther than MissingNo.

In this video at 1:00 Poketips finds a Pokemon named egg in X and Y with the cry of a Rotom, the sprite of a Bulbasaur, and the data of a egg and the number of 735 Which if you don’t know, is Gumshoos, and figures he might be able to put it in bank and at 2:56 you can see the beautiful image of the first Pokemon X origin Gumshoos. (Also the first water type one, beat that S/V) And he put it in bank with no issues…He put it in sun and moon, unfortunately it back into normal type. It had the X and Y origin mark. It is glitched but not necessary corrupted data.

Side note: Pokemon Home is a lot better at these types of things but gennned Pokemon, (which are Pokemon that are hacked in by editing a save file) are considered illegal and yet are often not detected by Home.

I want to say that this answer is still probably incomplete. But these glitches are hard to recreate and sort of study as the generations do on. There is not much information beyond the famous few glitches. Glitched Pokemon is a huge rabbit hole that I highly suggest all of you to look at it deeply. Perhaps in the future I can expand this answer more, but for now I will leave it here. Never underestimate how broken these games are.

I have been obsessed with Missingno for a long time, and this is very intriguing. I have already figured out  that part of Missingno’s data comes from cleffa and the baby khagaskhan (it’s a long story) could the ‘range of Pokémon’ there be a clue also?
I have actually seen pictures of Missingno in stadium and it looks like a substitute doll
EDIT: everyone has found glitch Pokémon but me, the one guy who is obsessed with things like this D:
This doesn't actually answer OP's question.
I agree with the above - this is (mostly) information relevant to missingno but not really to the question, so the extra information is just bloat.
