Amethyst’s answer is incomplete, it is correct, but it is only the start. Amethyst is right that you can’t transfer MissingNo into Bank or trade into gen 2 there is still cross generation things to do with MissingNo. For one, in the trade box in gen 2 you can still see the MissingNo before you trade it and it can appear as a range of Pokemon . From what I’ve seen it looks like only when you accept a trade that it puts the error.
Upon further research, you can put MissingNo (and more glitched Pokemon ) ( Although I am not sure how, if I find out I will edit) into Stadium 1 and it turns into a substitute doll (There is vague information on this so I assume forever). In Stadium 2 it turns into a buggy ditto that becomes a normal ditto when saved. That’s all I have to say for MissingNo.
Beyond the reign of MissingNo:
I think that this question has been slightly ignored, it has zero upvotes right now and I say that because I want to point out how truly interesting this question is when you look a little farther than MissingNo.
In this video at 1:00 Poketips finds a Pokemon named egg in X and Y with the cry of a Rotom, the sprite of a Bulbasaur, and the data of a egg and the number of 735 Which if you don’t know, is Gumshoos, and figures he might be able to put it in bank and at 2:56 you can see the beautiful image of the first Pokemon X origin Gumshoos. (Also the first water type one, beat that S/V) And he put it in bank with no issues…He put it in sun and moon, unfortunately it back into normal type. It had the X and Y origin mark. It is glitched but not necessary corrupted data.
Side note: Pokemon Home is a lot better at these types of things but gennned Pokemon, (which are Pokemon that are hacked in by editing a save file) are considered illegal and yet are often not detected by Home.
I want to say that this answer is still probably incomplete. But these glitches are hard to recreate and sort of study as the generations do on. There is not much information beyond the famous few glitches. Glitched Pokemon is a huge rabbit hole that I highly suggest all of you to look at it deeply. Perhaps in the future I can expand this answer more, but for now I will leave it here. Never underestimate how broken these games are.
