In Legends: Z-A, approaching a wild shiny Pokemon plays a special sound effect (not to be confused with the sound that plays when you send out a caught shiny Pokemon).

What is the distance at which the sound will play? Does the radius of this distance form a sphere (i.e., being vertically displaced affects your distance) or a cylinder (i.e., only 2 axes are considered)?

Please answer with a quantitative number; the in-game unit can be seen by placing a pin on the map.

Anecdotally it appears to be roughly 30 units. Not sure about vertical distance.
I know there’s two sounds. One when you get in range, and one when you look at it
Yeah good point. I'm mainly curious about the former since sometimes I hear the noise in cramped areas and I'm not really sure what range I should be searching in, or whether it may be on a roof that I passed under.
There is no exact distance but you have to be relatively close, if you hear it THEN see it will play the sound again.
if I would to guess maybe about 10-30 meters in game.
There are 2 times the sound cue is given.

When you get in range of the shiny, which is 50 meters, the sound will play. This is simply because 50m is the LZA spawn radius.

The 2nd sound cue is not distance-based, but rather when the shiny enters your line of sight, the sound plays again (if it wasn't within your sight before; otherwise, the sound only plays once).
