Hello yes it’s me again with ANOTHER question about stunfisk. In my last stunfisk question I was told the Z-A battle club was the best place for that silly little pancake. But now I’m wondering whether I should choose normal or galar pancakes!

Please provide strengths against other major threats (like how g-stunfisk can deal damage to xerneas) and teammates (do you really need g-stunfisk if you have a metagross?) stats and typing. any other info would help a lot
Thank you! :D

I intend to answer this very soon
but what exactly do you want for how good it is? Like what good VGC pokemon is a better matchup for which?
Just overall who is the best after considering the common threats in this season, typing, base stats and the like
Garchomp, mega skarmory, excadrill, xerneas gyarydos, ampharos are currently very common if that helps

I recommend regular Stunfisk for the following reasons:

  • Galarian Stunfisk favors physical attack, yet doesn't have access to a great physical Steel-type move on par with regular Stunfisk's STAB Thunderbolt (90 BP). Your best option is Magnet Bomb at 60 BP.
  • Regular Stunfisk can make the most out of Charge + Thunderbolt. Note that this combo hits harder when dealing neutral damage than any super-effective Steel attack from Galarian Stunfisk would, so regular Stunfisk is still the better option against Fairy-types. Using Charge is easy in this game since it isn't turn-based.
  • Galarian Stunfisk is outclassed by better Steel-types and other potential teammates in general. If you're committed to using Stunfisk, using the regular one lets you use another Steel-type, such as Metagross or Skarmory, without overlapping in coverage. This applies to other advantages; for instance, instead of using Galarian Stunfisk for its access to an Ice move, just add a Glaceon to deal with threats like Garchomp. Don't expect your Stunfisk to face every situation, outsource difficult matchups to another teammate.
  • Although Galarian Stunfisk has better defensive typing, since you're wanting to use your Stunfisk as a sweeper, your focus isn't on longevity or tanking hits anyway. Poison-immunity isn't important in this format since Toxic isn't a threat.
  • The normal one is easier to catch, so it's easier to get an XS Stunfisk.

Overall, Galarian Stunfisk has worse offensive potential compared to regular Stunfisk; Charge + Thunderbolt will be a valuable combo if your goal is to be a hard-hitting sweeper.

It’s impossible to get an XS galar-stunfisk as you can only get the one in the quest. Idk if this changes in the dlc tho…
You can sometimes find them in DLC areas, it's just less accessible.
Oh ok that makes more sense now

Their stats are flipped,
Unovan is a better Sp. Attacker with 81 over 66 for Galarian,
Galarian is a better physical attacker with 81 over 66 for Unovan
It's the same for the defense stats.
Unovan has 99 Sp. Defense while Galarian has 84
Galarian has 99 Defense while Galarian has 84.
Score: 1-1
Unovan is Ground/Electric, so it has an immunity to Electric
Galarian is Ground/Steel, so it has immunities to Electric and Poison
Score: 1-2
Flexibility and coverage (Damaging moves)
Unovan Stunfisk learns 3 Electric moves. Galarian learns 0.
Each learns 2 Normal moves.
Each learns 4 Water moves
Each learns 3 Rock moves.
Unovan Stunfisk learns 5 Ground moves. Galarian learns 6.
Each learns 1 Bounce, a Flying move.
Each learns 2 Poison moves.
Galarian Stunfisk learns Crunch, a Dark move.
Galarian Stunfisk learns Ice Fang, an Ice move.
Galarian Stunfisk learns 4 Steel moves.
Score: 1-3
(Matchups against popular picks. Moves and type advantages only)
1. Skarmory (Galarian is better)
2. Gyarados (Unovan is better)
3. Xerneas (Galarian is better)
4. Ampharos (Unovan is better)
5. Excadrill (Galarian is better)
Final Score: 1-4 (Galarian Stunfisk wins)

Galarian Stunfisk seems overall better, but you can still use regular Stunfisk.
I'll probably never say Stunfisk again.

Lemme know if i got anything wrong
This doesn't really solve anything IMO. You're just comparing them, not really giving a definitive answer of which is better and why, completely ignoring the second part of the question's description.
I included what was better at beating some of the top pokemon right now, and and which has better coverage.
