PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

While reading through each DB type page for fun, I found an interesting quirk — some types, such as Flying, note in their descriptions that Pokemon of that type, on average, have a higher stat than other types.

However, this information is not noted for every type, with it only mentioning that Flying is the fastest, and Rock & Ice have good defenses. Any other mentions of offense or defense are in the context of type (dis)advantages. It is also unclear how up-to-date this information is.

I would like to know the top three types with the highest average stats, including BST. I am asking for the top three as I fear that Dragon being the typing of most Pseudo Legendaries + a good amount of Legendaries may skew the rankings.

for some reason the dupe for this question did not appear when i was writing this — i do think this question is a bit different because like i suspected the original answer was dominated by dragon types. if it is still marked as a dupe that is fine.
pretty sure you can see the type rankings on the stat pages
yeah u lwk can but what if i lwk want them compiled into a list so i don’t have to manually check
yes but it it out of date ( posted in 2020 )

averages from bulbapedia (in order of HP, atk, def, sp. atk, sp. def, speed). i dont know enough about spreadsheets to format this data into a chart.
Taco where did you get that data? I asked Gemini to compile data to answer this question and it listed the same winners in every category as you, (except that Psychic had a higher avg. Sp. Atk than Dragon), but all with different numbers, albeit slightly.

Gemini listed:

HP Dragon 95.6
Attack Fighting 108.8
Defense Steel 112.6
Sp. Atk Psychic 95.4
Sp. Def Fairy 86.6
Speed Flying 85.6

Total Base Stat (BST): Dragon is the highest overall type, with an average BST of over 515.
bulbapedia lists averages for stats on pages for their types. cross referencing what you got with https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/all and using sheets to average them, the average BST i got for dragon is 543.85, average HP for dragon 88.7, average attack for fighting to be 109.09, average def for steel 108.93, average speed for flying 85.9.
idk where bulbapedia got the numbers from but it's likely that they're just out of date, either that or they counted differently (ie, didn't count megas or different forms as separate pokemon? idk).

i inherently do not trust clankers so i assume it did something stupid to get some of the numbers to be slightly off. **** ai. all clankers must die.

Stats taken from this site's Pokedex with stats, math done with Google sheets. Any numerical errors should be the fault of incorrect stats on the type pages. These numbers treat different forms of the same Pokemon as different Pokemon. Some of these forms have no difference in type or statistics, for example, Toxtricity, Squawkabilly, and Dudunsparce. Given that there aren't very many of these Pokemon, yes, they will affect the numbers, but they should not be significantly different.

Notes:
Interestingly, Bulbapedia lists these numbers, as the averages for stats (from top to bottom, HP, atk, def, sp. atk, sp. def, speed, BST) on their pages for each type, with some of the numbers being different. This is likely due to different forms of Pokemon not being counted the way they are with my numbers (see the second to last sentence of my paragraph above).

Did you count every Pokemon in every main series game or only the ones in gen 9?
Also Cetitan looks like it's singlehandedly carrying the ice type's average HP.
All stats were directly copy+pasted from the DB page I linked at the top of the answer, so, yes, I counted every Pokemon. Not sure how you got the idea that I only used the Pokemon in Gen 9.
Completely removing Cetitan's HP from the Ice type average only lowers it to 78.9
It's actually pretty wild how Ice-types have generally decent defensive stats only for it to not matter at all because being Ice-type is effectively like having all those stats be cut in half.
