Would it be possible to steal the mega stone off of a Pokemon and it still remain mega?

I was coming up with a concept for a Mega Feraligatr moveset and wanted to use a held item. I've never played VGC when megas were in the game so I'm not sure if moves like Switcharoo or Theif work on mega evolved Pokemon. I was thinking of using a Pokemon holding a Dragon Fang and using switcharoo to remove mega Feraligatr's mega stone to give it even more strength when using dragon-type moves. Would this work?

I think none of the item switching moves work on mega stones.
